Think You’re Too Out of Shape for CrossFit? Read This First.

by: Kate Rawlings, Owner and CrossFit Level 2 trainer, the becoming co

If you’ve ever Googled, “Am I too out of shape for CrossFit?” or “How do I start working out when I’m completely out of shape?” I want you to know something

You’re not the only one.

In fact, those are some of the first things people tell me when they walk into Becoming CrossFit here in North Ridgeville.

They’re nervous. They’re intimidated. They think everyone else already knows what they’re’re doing while they’ll be the only beginner in the room.

I get it. CrossFit has done a pretty good job of making people think it’s only for elite athletes throwing around heavy barbells. But after coaching for nearly two decades, I can tell you that’s one of the biggest myths in fitness.

The people who are the most successful aren’t the ones who started in amazing shape. They’re the ones who got tired of waiting for the “perfect time” and decided to take the first step anyway.

Here’s what I’ve learned after years of coaching.

Most adults don’t need more motivation. They don’t need someone yelling at them to work harder. They don’t need another meal plan or another challenge.

They’re burned out.

They’re trying to balance work, family, bills, relationships, appointments, and everything else life throws at them. By the end of the day, taking care of themselves feels like one more responsibility instead of something that gives them life.

That’s why I believe movement should make your life better, not add more stress to it.

When someone joins Becoming CrossFit, I don’t expect them to know how to deadlift or clean or snatch. I don’t expect them to keep up with someone who’s been training for years.

That’s my job.

Our coaches teach every movement. We modify every workout. We meet people exactly where they are because everyone has a different starting point. You don’t have to earn the right to be coached. You just have to be willing to walk through the door.

And while people usually come because they want to lose weight, get stronger, or have more energy, something else almost always happens.

They find community.

They find people who know their name.

They find coaches who notice when they haven’t been in for a few days.

They find encouragement on the days they don’t believe in themselves.

For a lot of adults, that’s something they haven’t experienced in a long time.

If you’re looking for a beginner-friendly CrossFit gym in North Ridgeville—or you’re coming from Avon, North Olmsted, Elyria, or one of the surrounding communities—I want you to know you don’t have to be fit before you start.

You don’t have to know how to lift.

You don’t have to wait until next Monday.

You just have to decide you’re worth an hour.

If you’ve been waiting for a sign, maybe this is it.

Come meet us. Tour the gym. Talk with one of our coaches. Ask every question you have.

We’ll take it from there.

At Becoming CrossFit, we’re not just helping people get stronger.

We’re helping people become the healthiest, strongest version of themselves—one workout, one conversation, and one day at a time.
